- Acrylic painted chickadee and sunflower cannonball gourd by Karen Wilson – This was a fun cannonball wren birdhouse to paint. Karen loves to watch the chickadees at her home and enjoys painting them on gourds with acrylics. Polyurethane outdoor finish is always applied by brush with two coats by hubby Paul B. Wilson. A lovely little home for a wren.
- Green apple Common Yellowthroat and flower painted design by Paul B. Wilson – Paul and Karen love to try to paint birds from the Birds and Blooms magazines on their gourds. Paul did an excellent job with acrylics on this apple gourd. Then he made it into a wren birdhouse with a back door. A lovely design both beautiful and functional
- Large bottle hummingbird and flowers design birdhouse by Karen Wilson -The large bottle gourds are fun to design with multicolor flowers and a hummingbird. This birdhouse is for a small bird (wren size hole) such as wren, titmouse, or chickadee. Karen Wilson used acrylics and polyurethane semigloss finish was hand brushed on with two coats for outdoor use.

Drainage holes are drilled underneath too to make this home a nice place to live for a little bird.

- American Flag birdhouse design by Wilsons Gourds – Our American Flag birdhouses are very popular with the public. The stars are handpainted on by Paul B. Wilson. Acrylics are used by the Wilsons for the stripes and blue above. A wren size hole is made with drainage holes on the bottom. Semigloss polyurethane finish is hand brushed on for outdoor use with two coats.
- 2011 Bottle design butterflies and sunflowers by Karen Wilson – A pastel green background wtih colorful butterflies and sunflowers was designed on a bottle gourd by Karen Wilson. This entire piece is painted with acrylics and finished with a semigloss polyurethane finish for outdoor use as a birdhouse with a wren size hole for smaller birds. It was a fun folk art design to do.
- Bottle Gourd another designed chickadee by Paul B. Wilson – Paul B. Wilson painted two variations with bottle gourds of chickadee designs with acrylic paints. Both are unique and beautiful birdhouses for small birds wren size holes. Polyurethane semigloss finish is applied by hand brushed on the gourds with two coats for outdoor use. Wonderful designs of those precious chickadees. Chickadees do nest in our small birdhouses too.
- 2011 Bottle designed hummingbird and bright flowers by Karen Wilson – The bright yellow brings out a tropical look on this bottle birdhouse design by Karen Wilson. Acrylics were used to design this wren size hole birdhouse. Polyurethane semigloss finish was applied with a brush with two coats.
- Bottle Gourd Blue Bunting design wren house by Karen Wilson – This is a regular size bottle gourd designed with acrylics by Karen Wilson. A beautiful blue bunting with flowers are on this piece which is finished with semigloss polyurethane outdoor finish by hand brushing on two coats. A nice little home for a bird.
- Bottle gourd designs by Karen Wilson (Cardinal and Chicken) – The cardinal bottle gourd was painted with watercolors and has a polyurthene finish. The chicken gourd has polymer clay for the eyes, beak, and crust and is painted with acrylics. Both have wren size holes and polyurthene semigloss indoor/outdoor finish brushed on with two coats
- Cannonball colored pencil birdhouse design by Karen Wilson – Colored pencils were used to design the blue hummingbird and flowers on this wren size hole cannonball birdhouse. Two coats of polyurethane semigloss outdoor finish was applied by brush. A nice little home for the smaller birds.
- Bottle gourd metallic hummingbirds designed birdhouse by Paul B. Wilson – This has a tropical flavor with Paul B. Wilson using metallic paints on the two hummingbird designs with the bright sun and sunflower on a light blue background. A wren size hole was made and semigloss polyurethane outdoor finish was brushed on with two coats. A delightful piece to enjoy.
- Canadian Goose Wren Birdhouse by Karen Wilson – Karen enjoys painting the Canadian Goose and making it into a wren birdhouse. She has used acrylics, pine-cones and gourd seeds on various Canadian goose designs. This one is painted. Polyurethane is always brushed on her geese with two coats.
- Chickadee bottle gourd birdhouse design by Karen Wilson – This bottle gourd was later made into a wren birdhouse. Acrylic paints were used by Karen Wilson to design the purple flowers and chickadee. Semigloss outdoor polyurethane finish was applied by brush with two coats. A fun piece to design.
- Canteen Sunflower design by Karen Wilson – This sunflower canteen gourd wren size hole birdhouse was designed with acrylics by Karen Wilson. A semigloss hand brushed on polyurethane outdoor finish was applied. A wonderful canteen gourd birdhouse!!!

- Colored pencil Western Tangier design Dipper Gourd birdhouse by Karen Wilson – A dipper gourd was constructed into a wren size hole birdhouse for our smaller birds. Karen Wilson used colored pencils on this design which was finished with polyurethane two coats of semigloss finish which makes it very durable for outdoor use. A beautiful birdhouse for a little bird’s enjoyment!!!!
- 2011 Dipper Gourd Goldfinch design by Paul B. Wilson – This wren size hole birdhouse was designed by Paul B. Wilson used acrylics to paint a beautiful goldfinch with white vine type flowers on a dipper gourd. Polyurethane finish, semigloss, was brushed on with two coats.
- Dyed and painted bluebird birdhouse – Paul B. Wilson dyed this wren type birdhouse while Karen completed it by painting with acrylics the bluebird and flowers. It turned out wonderful. Just the perfect wren type birdhouse for the smaller birds to live in. Polyurethane was applied by brush with two coats.
- Fall Cardinal Martin Gourd birdhouse design 2011 – Cardinals are fun to watch at our birdfeeders and fun to paint on gourds with the many seasons. Here is one of the fall designs painted with acrylics by Karen Wilson with a wren size hold. A back door was added for easy cleanout and all was treated with polyurethane finish.
- English cottage birdhouse with gourd seed roof by Karen Wilson – This martin gourd cottage was designed by Karen Wilson. Karen used purple martin gourd seeds for the roof and then painted the cottage with acrylics. A wren size hole with a back door and drainage holes made it a perfect little home for a small bird.
- Fake bird on English Cottage Birdhouse – This design may be used indoors or outdoors. A fake bird is on a perch which was used to enhance the visual effect. A door with a clasp is attached. Christmas money may be hidden inside this or may use outdoors for a birdhouse but will have to take fake bird off. There is a perch so one must watch carefully for larger birds so they do not disturb the nest. Pieces of pinecones are the roof and acrylics were used for this design by Karen Wilson.
- First Place Ribbon, 2008 IL State Gourd Convention, Clinton, IL English Cottage Birdhouse by Karen Wilson – This English Cottage birdhouse designed by Karen Wilson has pieces of pinecone glue on top for the roof, then a beautiful grape orchard around it with flowering trees and window flower boxes, and nice hedges with flowers. A perfect birdhouse for a little wren. Karen enjoys making her English Cottage Birdhouses. A back door has an opening in the back for cleaning.
- Irish Cottage Birdhouse by Karen Wilson – Karen Wilson loves to use her English cottage design to create various types of cottages for different seasons too. This is her Irish Cottage with a straw painted roof and the lucky 4 leaf clovers in pots and in the flower beds. A back door is made for easier cleaning. Hubby Paul B. Wilson helps with making the wren size holes and back doors on the cottages. He also hand brushes two coats of polyurthene semigloss indoor/outdoor finish. Drainage holes are added on the bottom. Perches are avoided on all the birdhouses unless adding fake birds. Perches encourage larger birds that disturb the nests of smaller birds by making the holes bigger with their beaks and ruining eggs in the nests of smaller birds. So we discourage using perches on birdhouses.
- Christmas Gingerbread Cottage House by Karen Wilson – This is a gingerbread house with fake bird house that may be used indoors/ or outdoors use. If using outdoors the bird would have to be removed and watch that larger birds would not disturb the nest with a perch. Can remove perch too if wish. For a little wren. A back door is made for easy cleaning. A nice holiday home to enjoy indoors as an ornament or outdoors for a small bird to enjoy. Acrylics were used and polyurethane two coats hand brushed on finish.
- First apple design birdhouse by Paul B. Wilson – This was one of Paul’s original apple design birdhouses he painted a beautiful hummingbird on wtih acrylics. The opening is at the top. Some folks used it as a birdfeeder. Paul has since made the birdhouses with doors on the back instead of opening at the top. Polyurethane is always applied by brush with two coats.
- In the dog house, dog design dipper gourd 2011 by Karen Wilson – Here is a favorite dog design on a dipper gourd painted with acrylics by Karen Wilson. Polyurthene indoor/outdoor finish was applied with two coats. This was made into a little wren house. A fun and functional item for the outdoors.
- Bottle Gourd blue hummingbird and flower design by Karen Wilson – This is one of the designs that Wilsons Gourds has used in gourd workshops making birdhouses with the public. Karen Wilson used acrylic paints to design the hummingbird and flowers with a wren size hole. A wonderful piece to take home and hang outside for the little birds to enjoy.
- Martin Gourd and Bottle Gourd birdhouse designs by Karen Wilson – The martin gourd with beautiful flowers and green hummingbird was designed by Karen Wilson. Acrylics were used on this piece and semigloss finish polyurethane for indoor/outdoor use was applied. A wren size hole with a back door was made for easy cleaning. The bottle gourd was also designed with acrylics by Karen Wilson. The bird is a mockingbird with blue type flowers. It was also made into a wren birdhouse. (Note sometimes the holes on our birdhouse are put in the middle on the back due to not wanting to disturb the art design on the gourd. The holes are placed so birds stay warm and dry and keep in the nest.
- Martin Gourd, Cardinal and Flowers by Karen Wilson – This was a lovely martin gourd that Karen Wilson painted with acrylics of a cardinal in the spring time with the apple blossoms. Polyurethane finish was brushed on with two coats.
- Garden art Sculpted flamingo gourd design by Wilsons Gourds 2011 – Paul B. Wilson enjoyed sculpted various pieces of gourds to make this piece into a flamingo. Karen then proceeded to paint the gourd with acrylics to make it look like a flamingo. Polyurethane indoor/outdoor finish was brushed on by Paul with two coats of finish. A wonderful tropical flamingo it became. We have made many shapes and sizes of flamingos. They are popular with our customers .

- Pink Flamingo Birdhouse by Wilsons Gourds – Paul and Karen are enjoying making flamingos both as birdhouses and ornamental designs for the public to enjoy. The flamingoes are usually sculpted with two to three gourd pieces to create the unique design. Acrylics are used for painted the flamingo and sometimes pink feathers are attached. Polyurthene semigloss brings out the features of the flamingo and is brushed on with indoor/outdoor finish two coats. A fun item to make.
- Green Jay Apple Wren Birdhouse by Paul B. Wilson 2011 Paul enjoyed painting many styles of birds on apple gourds in 2011. Here is his red apple green jay bird design. The birdhouse has a back door for easy cleaning and has two coats of polyurethane finish applied with a brush. So a functional and beautiful birdhouse to hang outside for a little wren to live in. How awesome!!!
- Martin Gourd Red Roses and Hummingbird birdhouse – This gourd was designed by Karen Wilson using acrylics paints to create beautiful roses and a hummingbird. This design was later made into a wren birdhouse. Polyurethane semigloss finish was hand brushed on with two coats.
- Martin gourd Warbler and flowers design by Paul B. Wilson – This is a beautiful martin gourd painted with acrylics by Paul B. Wilson of a warbler with pink flowers. A birdhouse for a wren was later constructed. Polyurethane semigloss outdoor finish was hand brushed on with two coats.
- One of Karen Wilson’s first hummingbird and flowers gourd birdhouse bottle gourd designs – This bottle gourd was one of the first designs Karen Wilson painted with acrylics and made into a small wren size hole birdhouse. She also left this as an ornamental garden piece to use either indoors or outdoors. Polyurethane was hand brushed on with a semigloss finish with two coats to complete the piece. A fun design to do.
- Painted bottle Cardinal Winter design 2011 by Karen Wilson – Karen painted this bottle cardinal birdhouse soon to be a wren house with acrylics paints. Polyurethane finish was brushed on two coats. The cardinal is always fun to paint with all the seasons.
- Pelican Birdhouse by Karen Wilson – Karen hand drew and used acrylic paints on this design she found in a state coloring book. She loves the pelicans she saw in Grafton, IL in the early spring while visiting and though a neat birdhouse would be wonderful to make. The birdhouse is for a wren and has a back door and two hand brushed on coats of polyurethane indoor/outdoor finish.
- Racoon Birdhouse design by Karen Wilson – Karen Wilson loves to make some animals of nature on gourds. One of her fun designs is the raccoon. She likes the thicker top of some gourds to make the tail for the raccoon. It is a fun wren size birdhouse to make with polyurethane outdoor semigloss finish.

The hole is a wren size hole for the smaller birds to enjoy. Semigloss outdoor polyurethane finish was hand brushed on with two coats. A nice little birdhouse!!!!
- Wilsons Gourds Apple Birdhouse – This was one of our first apple gourd birdhouse designs. Some folks even used it as a birdfeeder. We have since progressed to having doors in the back of the apple for birdhouses and have used other gourds for bird feeders.
- Woodburned and colored pencil design by Paul B. Wilson – This is a beautiful gourd that Paul B. Wilson woodburned then used colored pencil to bring out the rose and hummingbird. A wonderful little wren house to enjoy.
- Woodburned and watercolored hummingbirds and flower design by Karen Wilson -This martin gourd was made into a birdhouse for a small bird to enjoy (wren size hole but titmouse and chickadees might also enjoy this). Karen Wilson woodburned and water-colored this piece. A polyurethane semigloss finish with a brush was applied in two coats for outdoor use.
- Woodburned hummingbird and Irish birdhouse design by Paul B. Wilson – Paul B. Wilson used a 950 degree wedge tip on a wood burning tool to burned the hummingbird and flowers on this piece. The irises were enhanced by using metallic acrylic paints to bring out the purple color and white. A wren size hole was made for the birdhouse design. Semigloss polyurethane was applied with a brush with two coats. A beautiful piece to enjoy.
- Yellow apple design with hummingbird and roses by Paul B. Wilson 2011 Wren Birdhouse – This beautiful yellow apple wren birdhouse was painted by Paul B. Wilson with acrylics and metallic paints. It is an awesome piece that is both beautiful and functional as a wren birdhouse. A back door was made for easy cleaning and Paul brushed on two coats of outdoor polyurethane finish. A wonderful apple gourd.
- Yellow warblers and flowers design Martin Gourd by Paul B. Wilson 2011 – This is a beautiful handpainted martin gourd that Paul B. Wilson completed. It was made into a wren birdhouse with a back door. Polyurthen finish was brushed on with two coats. A lovely gourd to use outdoors for the little wrens to live in. Enjoy.
- Bird baths by Wilsons Gourds – The bird baths were constructed from extra large gourds for the birds to enjoy. Acrylic paints were used and polyurethane finish two coats.
- Bird feeder flower design – This is a small gourd that was made into a birdfeeder for the birds to enjoy. Note that we like to make our flower feeders look like the inside of a flower. This was done with acrylics and semigloss outdoor polyurethane hand brushed on finish was applied. Drainage holes were added to keep the seed dry.
- Folk art Heart Shaped birdfeeder by Karen Wilson 2011 – Acrylics were use to paint this unique folk art design by Karen Wilson. Just the perfect birdhouse for all our birds to enjoy.
- Heart Shaped cannonball birdfeeder 2011 – The Wilsons are now using various types of gourds to make interesting birdfeeders. We love the heart shape birdfeeder designs. We love the birds. The desigs are cut out in a heart shape and acrylic painted the entire gourd with folk art flower designs. They were fun to make and beautiful they became
- Bird baths another view – These extra large gourds may be used as bird baths. Acrylic painted are used and polyurethane is hand brushed on with two coats.
- Flower birdfeeders by Wilsons Gourds – We love to make flower birdfeeder of various colors. Red is very popular with the public as the flower seems to attract hummingbirds to their feeders. Cardinals, blue jays, woodpeckers, titmouses, chickadees, etc. love to eat their seeds from our flower feeders. It is fun watching the birds. This flower design was a second place ribbon in 2008 at the Illinois State Gourd Convention in Clinton, IL.
