- Blue fish design by Wilsons’ Gourds – Paul B. Wilson is now using air dry clay to enhance the mouth and eyes of the fish piece. He cuts out fins and attaches them to the gourd. Karen then creates the fish using various shades of acrylics and metallic paints. The result is a beautiful blue fish. Polyurethane finish is once again applied with two coats.

- First goldfish folk art and Woodpecker design by Wilsons Gourds – This fish tale is of a folk art looking goldfish. Paul Wilsons cut the mouth and sculpted fish fins on the gourd. Karen then proceeded to enhance the fish with her acrylic designs. The result was a beautiful fish to enjoy!!! Karen also painted the woodpecker martin gourd in the foreground. Both gourds have semigloss polyurethane finish hand brushed on with two coats.
- Fish trophy by Wilsons Gourds – Paul B. Wilson sculpted this piece with gourd pieces and air dry clay. Karen Wilson then proceeded to use metallics and acrylics to create the fish design. Polyurethane finish was then brush on. Paul B. Wilson took the photo to make it look like a mounted fish design. How great it is!!!
- 2011 Goldfish caught at Horner Park Lebanon, IL by Wilsons’ Gourds – Thought this would be a unique photo of our 2011 designed goldfish. We once again used air dry clay, cut out pieces of gourds to make the fins and attach to the gourd, and acrylics and metallic paints. Polyurethane is applied in an indoor/outdoor semigloss finish by hand brushing on two coats. A fun photo to enjoy.
- 2008 IL State Gourd Convention, Clinton, IL Second Place Ribbon, Fish design by Wilsons’ Gourds – We won a second place ribbon for our fish design. Paul B. Wilson sculpted the fish using cut out gourd pieces for fins. Karen Wilson then proceeded to use acrylics and metallics to paint a unique fish design. The results were great. A second place ribbon!!! Wilson now is using air dry clay for the eyes and mouth design and cut out pieces for gourd fins he attaches to the piece. Karen then proceeds to use many folk art designs on the fish with metallic and acrylics paints. This makes a unique shaped fish and fun fish to design. Polyurethane semigloss indoor/outdoor finish is hand brushed on with two coats.
- Primitive Makanda fish design by Wilsons’ Gourds – We were trying to come up with designs for the Makanda gourds and came up with a primitive fish design. Paul B. Wilsons constructed with pieces of gourds the fins, then Karen Wilson applied metallic and acrylics paints to make a unique fish design. Polyurethane finish was applied with two coats in semigloss indoor/outdoor finish. One of our first designs with this type of gourd.
- 2nd primitive makanda fish design by Wilsons’ Gourds – The makanda gourds are fun to use to sculpt fish and paint by Wilsons’ Gourds. This piece has metallic paint designs by Karen Wilson and is sculpted with fins from gourd pieces by Paul B. Wilson.

- Really large fish design (Sunfish) by Wilsons Gourds – This is one of our larger tropical fish we enjoyed making. Paul cut the pieces to this gourd to create fins on this unusual gourd shape. Karen then proceeded to use acrylics and metallics to make a beautiful painted fish to enjoy. A fun sunfish to make!!!! Polyurethane semigloss indoor/outdoor finish was applied to finish the piece.

Wilsons’ Gourds are using air dry clay for the eyes and mouth and cut out fin shapes attached to the gourd to create a fish. Acrylics and metallics are used to create designs to enhance visual appeal. Rresults are unique fish. Polyurethane semigloss is brushed on with two coats indoor/outdoor.
- Wilsons Gourds first fish design by Paul B. Wilson and Karen Wilson – Paul B. Wilson constructed this fish design using gourd pieces he cut out for fins and glued and cut to fit. Then a 950 degree woodburning wedge type on a woodburning tool was used for woodburning the piece by Karen. After this Karen painted with metallics the eyes and mouth to bring out the design. Polyurethane was applied later by brush with two coats of finish.
- Wood burned and gourd sculpted fish design done by Karen and Paul B. Wilson of Wilsons’ Gourds – This is one of our very first fish folk art designs. The fish was wood burned with 950 degree wood burning tool and sculpted with pieces of gourd. We like the wood burning effect, but we felt that future fish designs would be more visually appealing being painted.
- Yellowish Green sculpted, air dry fish design 2011 by Wilsons’ Gourds – The long penguin type gourd was used to sculpt with air dry clay and cut out gourd pieces for fins attached to create this unusual looking fish. Acrylics and metallics were used to paint the fish and offer a unique visual appeal. A wonderful designed fish to enjoy.
