Irish Cottage Birdhouse by Karen Wilson – Karen Wilson loves to use her English cottage design to create various types of cottages for different seasons too. This is her Irish Cottage with a straw painted roof and the lucky 4 leaf clovers in pots and in the flower beds. A back door is made for easier cleaning. Hubby Paul B. Wilson helps with making the wren size holes and back doors on the cottages. He also hand brushes two coats of polyurthene semigloss indoor/outdoor finish. Drainage holes are added on the bottom. Perches are avoided on all the birdhouses unless adding fake birds. Perches encourage larger birds that disturb the nests of smaller birds by making the holes bigger with their beaks and ruining eggs in the nests of smaller birds. So we discourage using perches on birdhouses.
